29 Sep Facebook Dislike Button OFFICIAL
After a lot of posts on facebook first claiming that a dislike button would be released, then later refuting the claims as rumors, it now seems that a type of dislike (or alternative to like) button is being worked on.
“People have asked about the ‘Dislike’ button for many years … and today is a special day, because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it and are very close to shipping a test of it.”

However, it will not be a simple like or dislike situation. Facebook are building something that could best be described as an empathy button. A way to express your emotions other than like. This would fill the awkward gap where you see a disaster announced such as “12 people die in bus crash” and then the notification that “240 people like 12 people die in bus crash”.
“We don’t want to turn Facebook into a forum where people are voting up or down on people’s posts,” Zuckerberg said. “That doesn’t seem like the kind of community that we want to create: you don’t want to go through the process of sharing some moment that was important to you in your day and have someone downvote it.”

Liked posts already appear higher in your feed and the new empathy button will most likely boost your post in a very similar manner. This could see a new type of marketing taking place where companies target emotions on a wide range, instead of simply aiming for a like.
